Film Master Weekly Newsletter 06/06/11

***Biggest News***
The Thing gets a remake?
The 80's hit thriller/horror gore-fest is getting another remake! Well what I remembered most about the original The Thing is the immense gore and amazing visual effects, but now we all know that this next one is most likely going to be CGI, possibly even in 3D too. The film is currently in production and is being Directed by  Matthijs van Heijningen Jr. The film is going to premier on October 14, 2011. Hopefully I can get to see this one if it is a (15) film. Let's hope this one is good and not a remake dud.

Important Notice:
Next week there will not be a Newsletter as I will be busy with exams and such. As I said in the previous newsletter I won't be posting much for the next two weeks. So stay tuned because a lot of great reviews and posts are to come!

This Week:
Marvel, Marvel, Marvel!
Quite recently the cinema has been Marvel madness. All the new leaks, teasers, trailers and the release of the New X-Men has made this year the year of the comic book movies. Not complaining or anything, but there has been a lot going on with superhero movies the past few years. Well X-Men: First Class is getting good reviews and is Certified Fresh on Rotten Tomatoes.Although I love Batman films and a bit of Spider-man i'm not a Marvel fan.

The Dark Knight Leaks
Two new viral videos popped on up YouTube, uploaded by 'The Fire Rises' -- the same username revealed in the Twitter image of villain Bane a few weeks ago. Filming began in Aril and already leaks are spreading. Read more here: http://blog.moviefone.com/2011/06/02/dark-knight-rises-viral-videos/?_r=true

The Trailer for Sky Kids 4 is here!
Oh boy, Spy Kids 4. Here is another recycled concept most likely for the money. One thing to note is our main characters actors are like 18 now. But wait, according to the trailer it has nothing to do with them. Overall it just looks like another stupid kids action film. I'm not looking forward to this and may very well be one of the worst of this year. See the trailer here:

This Week at the Box office:

  • Kung Fu Panda June 10 (Worldwide)
  • Kaboom June 10
  • Mother's Day June 10
Last Week:

The Writers of Epic Movie and Date movie and Meet the Spartans make a spoof of Avatar!
Now I thought Avatar was a great film. It wasn't a ground-breaking outstanding film, but it was fantastically made. But spoofing it. I have nothing to say other than WHY DO THESE PEOPLE EVEN GET THE RIGHT TO DO THIS!!!! Writers Jason Friedberg and Aaron Seltzer have made a big mistake once again!  Here we have talentless trash deciding they are going to spoof  popular film and it's probably because they know they can't write anything good! It's almost as If they envy these films and decide to spoof them! The thing that pisses me off even more is that it's an entire film spoof. Now I am fine with spoofs. Mel Brooks did it with Star Wars with making Space balls, but these guys are talentless and the jokes are so in your face, and quite frankly AREN'T FUNNY!!! Another thing is the fact that a film takes a crew of people to do, and to think they would want to be a part of this is outrageous! But, I can't blame the people fully involved as they are just doing their jobs. It's the writers who we should be angry at. Please comment on what you think of this because I think it's a disgrace! The film is currently under the title "THE BIGGEST MOVIE OF ALL TIME 3D GOT THE TOP SPOT WITH ITS TITLE ALONE". The idea of the film all comes down to one question. Why?! This is definitely the worst news all week so please comment and tell me what you think.

Other News:

Rotten Tomatoes 10 movie Mutants post
I thought Id notify about Rotten Tomatoes blog post on 10 movie mutants. From The Fly to Basket Case I agree, they are all very mutated. check it out here: http://www.rottentomatoes.com/m/x_men_first_class/news/1922816/top_10_movie_mutants/

2012 and beyond in film (Part 2)
And now to continue the list from last week of future productions to be seen in 2012 and beyond.

Madagascar 3
Well somehow, there is going to be another Madagascar film.It seems DreamWorks are following Pixar's steps and that of their previous series Shrek and continuing the series. I'm not a huge fan of any of the films but the first one was great. The second one was okay but it was trying to hard to be funny. So here we have the third one. According to ComingSoon.net, Alex the lion, Marty the zebra, Gloria the hippopotamus and Melman the giraffe are still fighting to get home to New York; King Julien, Maurice, Mort, and the penguins are along for the adventure. This time the road takes them through Europe where they find the perfect cover: a travelling circus which they will reinvent Madagascar style. The current release date is July 8, 2012.

Men in Black 3:
It is clear msot films now want to come in three's. I remember the first Men in Black film with rising star Will Smith. It was a pretty good movie and the sequel wsn't too bad either. But I can't see what this will be about. Another thing we will know for certain is it's going to be a big CG film, so this is one I think I'll skip in the cinema. The release date is currently May 25, 2012.

Frankenweenie
Since there is now Tim Burton film this year (in terms of being directed) I'm actually quite interested in this idea. For those that don't know, in the early 80's Frankenweenie was a short film Burton made for CAL Arts. So now it's going to get changed into a feature film and this sounds like a very different and interesting idea. The current release date is October 5, 2012.

There are loads of other films I could include but I don't want to bore you.

Possible Reviews this Week:
  • Planet of the Apes
  • Thelma & Louise
  • Grease
  • Year One
  • Wall-E
  • A Chump at Oxford
***Busy this week so only a few will go up***
