Film Master News Letter 5# 04/07/11

Well I am back with the news letter thing again but this time they aren't going to be as long because it feels kind of pointless writing news that people can get from any source basically. I am only writing what I feel is necessary.

The Silent Film Marathon
The marathon has been going on for around 2 1/2 weeks now but is coming to end very soon. After I review one more film it will all be over, and then I will be making my top 10 favourite silent films list. It has been fun watching all these silent films and I will be watching more in the future.

This week in theatres:
  • Horrible Bosses July 8
  • Zoo Keeper July 8
The worst News
The trailer is finally up for Puss in Boots and boy does it look stupidly commercial. http://www.rottentomatoes.com/m/1209933-puss_in_boots/trailers/11147404

      Film Master Weekly Newsletter 06/06/11

      ***Biggest News***
      The Thing gets a remake?
The 80's hit thriller/horror gore-fest is getting another remake! Well what I remembered most about the original The Thing is the immense gore and amazing visual effects, but now we all know that this next one is most likely going to be CGI, possibly even in 3D too. The film is currently in production and is being Directed by  Matthijs van Heijningen Jr. The film is going to premier on October 14, 2011. Hopefully I can get to see this one if it is a (15) film. Let's hope this one is good and not a remake dud.

      Important Notice:
Next week there will not be a Newsletter as I will be busy with exams and such. As I said in the previous newsletter I won't be posting much for the next two weeks. So stay tuned because a lot of great reviews and posts are to come!

      This Week:
      Marvel, Marvel, Marvel!
Quite recently the cinema has been Marvel madness. All the new leaks, teasers, trailers and the release of the New X-Men has made this year the year of the comic book movies. Not complaining or anything, but there has been a lot going on with superhero movies the past few years. Well X-Men: First Class is getting good reviews and is Certified Fresh on Rotten Tomatoes.Although I love Batman films and a bit of Spider-man i'm not a Marvel fan.

      The Dark Knight Leaks
Two new viral videos popped on up YouTube, uploaded by 'The Fire Rises' -- the same username revealed in the Twitter image of villain Bane a few weeks ago. Filming began in Aril and already leaks are spreading. Read more here: http://blog.moviefone.com/2011/06/02/dark-knight-rises-viral-videos/?_r=true

The Trailer for Sky Kids 4 is here!
Oh boy, Spy Kids 4. Here is another recycled concept most likely for the money. One thing to note is our main characters actors are like 18 now. But wait, according to the trailer it has nothing to do with them. Overall it just looks like another stupid kids action film. I'm not looking forward to this and may very well be one of the worst of this year. See the trailer here:
      http://www.rottentomatoes.com/m/spy_kids_4_armageddon/trailers/11145599

This Week at the Box office:

      • Kung Fu Panda June 10 (Worldwide)
      • Kaboom June 10
      • Mother's Day June 10
      Last Week:

The Writers of Epic Movie and Date movie and Meet the Spartans make a spoof of Avatar!
Now I thought Avatar was a great film. It wasn't a ground-breaking outstanding film, but it was fantastically made. But spoofing it. I have nothing to say other than WHY DO THESE PEOPLE EVEN GET THE RIGHT TO DO THIS!!!! Writers Jason Friedberg and Aaron Seltzer have made a big mistake once again!  Here we have talentless trash deciding they are going to spoof  popular film and it's probably because they know they can't write anything good! It's almost as If they envy these films and decide to spoof them! The thing that pisses me off even more is that it's an entire film spoof. Now I am fine with spoofs. Mel Brooks did it with Star Wars with making Space balls, but these guys are talentless and the jokes are so in your face, and quite frankly AREN'T FUNNY!!! Another thing is the fact that a film takes a crew of people to do, and to think they would want to be a part of this is outrageous! But, I can't blame the people fully involved as they are just doing their jobs. It's the writers who we should be angry at. Please comment on what you think of this because I think it's a disgrace! The film is currently under the title "THE BIGGEST MOVIE OF ALL TIME 3D GOT THE TOP SPOT WITH ITS TITLE ALONE". The idea of the film all comes down to one question. Why?! This is definitely the worst news all week so please comment and tell me what you think.

      Other News:

Rotten Tomatoes 10 movie Mutants post
I thought Id notify about Rotten Tomatoes blog post on 10 movie mutants. From The Fly to Basket Case I agree, they are all very mutated. check it out here: http://www.rottentomatoes.com/m/x_men_first_class/news/1922816/top_10_movie_mutants/

2012 and beyond in film (Part 2)
And now to continue the list from last week of future productions to be seen in 2012 and beyond.

      Madagascar 3
Well somehow, there is going to be another Madagascar film.It seems DreamWorks are following Pixar's steps and that of their previous series Shrek and continuing the series. I'm not a huge fan of any of the films but the first one was great. The second one was okay but it was trying to hard to be funny. So here we have the third one. According to ComingSoon.net, Alex the lion, Marty the zebra, Gloria the hippopotamus and Melman the giraffe are still fighting to get home to New York; King Julien, Maurice, Mort, and the penguins are along for the adventure. This time the road takes them through Europe where they find the perfect cover: a travelling circus which they will reinvent Madagascar style. The current release date is July 8, 2012.

      Men in Black 3:
It is clear msot films now want to come in three's. I remember the first Men in Black film with rising star Will Smith. It was a pretty good movie and the sequel wsn't too bad either. But I can't see what this will be about. Another thing we will know for certain is it's going to be a big CG film, so this is one I think I'll skip in the cinema. The release date is currently May 25, 2012.

      Frankenweenie
Since there is now Tim Burton film this year (in terms of being directed) I'm actually quite interested in this idea. For those that don't know, in the early 80's Frankenweenie was a short film Burton made for CAL Arts. So now it's going to get changed into a feature film and this sounds like a very different and interesting idea. The current release date is October 5, 2012.

There are loads of other films I could include but I don't want to bore you.

      Possible Reviews this Week:
      • Planet of the Apes
      • Thelma & Louise
      • Grease
      • Year One
      • Wall-E
      • A Chump at Oxford

      Film Master Weekly Newsletter 30/05/11

      Important News!
So Long, farewell, I hate to say goodbye
Do not fear! I am not leaving for months or anything. For the next two 1/2 weeks I will be busy with exams, so there won't be many reviews or posts going around. I will try my best to post a few things, but just to let you all know, I will be away for a short absence. When the summer fully hits, expect some kick ass reviews and other blog posts! :)

      This Week:
Kung Fu Panda 2 Critical Reception:
So far the sequel to the wonderful animated Movie Kung Fu Panda is getting positive reviews all around. In Kung Fu Panda 2, Po is now living his dream as The Dragon Warrior, protecting the Valley of Peace alongside his friends and fellow Kung fu masters, The Furious Five. But Po's new life of awesomeness is threatened by the emergence of a formidable villain, who plans to use a secret, unstoppable weapon to conquer China and destroy Kung fu. It looks like are overweight panda friend has not failed to please, and it looks like a film worth seeing this year. The film opens worldwide on June 10.

Zach Braff joins 'Oz: The great and powerful'
First off I can't believe that they are making a film related to Oz from The Wizard Of Oz. For some reason, I can see it being like an action hero film and being totally ruined, or even all this bull about magic and stuff. Zach Braff is in final talks to join Disney's Oz: The Great and Powerful, the Sam Raimi-directed film for Disney. Braff will play the role of Frank, the loyal but under-appreciated assistant to Oz (James Franco), a charismatic circus magician who is treated as a powerful wizard after his balloon blows off course into Oz and the townsfolk want him to eradicate a Wicked Witch and bring peace. So even James Franco, the recently raising in popularity star will appear. The pic starts shooting in July in Michigan, with Joe Roth, Josh Donen and Grant Curtis producing and Palek Patel exec producing. Mitchell Kapner and David Lindsay-Abaire wrote the script, with Disney releasing the 3D film March 8, 2013. I have no idea what this will be like, but I hopefully it has some decency.

      Green With Envy- Muppets Trailer
Oh boy! The trailer for the next Muppet Movie went up last week. I loved the show and I loved that first Movie titled The Muppet Movie in 1979, and now Kermit and Co. return! For the first time I will be able to see the muppets on the big screen which is pretty cool, but let's hope this film is going to be good. The trailer looks like tis going to be good, and it's definitely on my anticipated Movie list! The film is going to be released on November 23, 2011. Like the Muppet show, there is an all-star cameo cast. Spanning from Lady Gaga to Rickey Gervais and even George Clooney and Billy Crystal! That's what I know the muppets for, putting lots of faces in their shows and films. SO let's hope for the best with this Muppets Movie!

      Other News:
Robert Pattinson in a David Cronenberg movie
Here we have a young star who is raising in popularity by the year. A somewhat teen-aged girl 'heart-throb', but overall he isn't that much of an actor. He is 'okay', but nothing special. So news is out that the director that brought you films such as Videodrome and The Fly will include Pattinson in his production. The film is called 'Cosmopolis' and is based on a novel of the same name. The film follows billionaire Robert Pattinson (his character of course) over a 24 hour span in which he cheats on his wife, gets stalked, gets assaulted, and loses his fortune.  Hopefully, at some point, he also catches a nap because that is one action-packed day. Lets hope for the best everyone because nothing has been mentioned of release dates.

2012 and beyond in film (Part 1):
I usually don't tend to get excited about films any further than 2 years away, because you know how Hollywood leaks are sometimes false. So we have talks of a fourth Ice Age film, if that even makes since and talks of DreamWorks films set to be released in 2014. If a 2014 release is announced now, and it is true, then the wait would be very anti-climatic. But here is some things that I have found out about 2012 (The year which I'm sure are not lies) and beyond in film.

Star Wars Episode 1: The Phantom Menace 3D:
Remember some time ago when it was announced the Star Wars films would return to 3D? Well in February 2012 the first episode is going to get put into 3D! It is the black sheep of all six films in the series, and I really don't favour in it much, but it's exciting to know as a rather late Star Wars fan that they are going to come out once again. I was 4 years old when this one came out so it will be pretty exciting to have it be released in 3D. Let's stay tuned and wait for Star Wars Episode 1 to hit our cinemas!

      Dr. Seuss' The Lorax
With a strange title, and a strange book author what can you really say with this one? First we had The Grinch, then The Cat in the Hat live action film. After that there was Horton Hears a Who. And now, another adaption from the very strange children's book author. The Lorax according to Wikipedia is a book about: A boy (representing the reader) comes to a desolate corner of town to visit a being called the Once-ler (who is never shown throughout the book except for his arms and hands) and learns about the Lorax. After the Once-ler receives payment from the boy (consisting of 15 cents, a nail, and the shell of a great, great, great grandfather snail) he recounts on how he first arrived where they now stand, back then a beautiful forest of Truffula Trees, colorful woolly trees that were spread throughout the area and supported an ecosystem of fantastical creatures. I'm not fond of this one and it sounds like something only for the kids. Voice roles are going to include Danny DeVito and, Zac Affron! What a pair up they have their. The release date is currently March 2, 2012.

      21 Jump Street:
Oh boy! A TV show that I have recently been watching and enjoying very much is going to become a film! just my luck! And, better yet, Johnny Depp is going to actually be Tom Hanson, the character he plays in the late 80's TV show. The star from 127 Hours, Dave Franco also won a role! The film is currently being filmed I believe and will hit the cinemas hopefully in March 2012. Although, I don't think the other original cast members are returning which is sad to hear.

So this newsletter isn't a foot long, part 2 of what is to come in the far off future will be in the next newsletter. Stay tuned everyone!

      Hottest News

      James Cameron's Titanic in 3D!?
Next year will be the 100th anniversary of the year the infamous Titanic Sunk. Almost everyone knows about the boat, and it looks now James Cameron is setting his idea on a 3D Re-release. Cameron says  "There's a whole generation that's never seen Titanic as it was meant to be seen, on the big screen... and this will be Titanic as you've never seen it before, digitally remastered at 4K and painstakingly converted to 3D. With the emotional power intact and the images more powerful than ever, this will be an epic experience for fans and newcomers alike." So it looks like for the next generation this blockbuster, that used to stand firm as highest Grossing of all time with $1 Billion, which was soon overtaken by Avatar; another film Cameron directed, will be a reality. The winner of 11 academy Awards is coming back, for us to see in theatres and being honest, It will be great to see it in the cinema, being 16 I never had the chance.

      This Week:

Kung Fu Panda 2 Releasing Worldwide:
On Thursday this week, the anticipated sequel to Kung Fu Panda will be released. Jack Black, the voice of Po is back again as the 'Kung Fu Master'. This time Po must defend the valley from a new villain called 'Emperor Albino' who threatens to take over China with a deadly weapon. With the help of The Furious Five, Po must defend the valley. This film actually seems to look like a decent sequel, and it will be good to see our overweight Panda in action once more. Lets hope for the best with this one.

The Critical reception of Pirates of the Caribbean 4:
Well Pirates 4 finally became a reality and the critics have spoken. Rotten Tomatoes average score from the critics is 34%of them enjoyed it, with an average score of 5.1. However,  Internet Movie Database (IMDB) has gave it 7.3/10, based on 123 reviews and 7900 votes. For me I scored the film 66% because I was sort of half way there to enjoying it. It's going to be one of the most talked about films for a month or so, so get out and see this one and see what you think of it.

The Dark Knight Rises filming in IMAX
Warner Bros. has announced that filming has commenced on Christopher Nolan’s The Dark Knight Rises.  Their announcement also confirms that the movie will be shooting on three continents: North America (Pittsburgh, New York, and Los Angeles), Europe (England and Scotland), and Asia (India).  Furthermore, the press release partially confirms our story when we said that Nolan was possibly shooting the entire film in IMAX.  It's not long now until we see Batman back in action. I can predict this film being a major box office smash, but let's hope it's a good film. The film stars Christian Bale, Anne Hathaway, Tom Hardy, Joseph-Gordon Levitt, Morgan Freeman, Gary Oldman, and Michael Caine.  The Dark Knight Rises opens July 20, 2012.

      Pirates Week Over:
Last week the only films I reviewed where the Pirates of the Caribbean films. If you haven't checked any of them, then go take a look. All I can say it was an enjoyable series (which may not be over yet). A very enjoyable series, but gets worse as they go along. Maybe it's Pirates fatigue or just the writers are getting stupider with the plots each time.

Chris Hemsworth announces film: Snow White and the Huntsman
Straight away from the title you can tell they are trying to revamp fairy-tales and turn them into Twilightesque, dark toned movies. It just sounds ridiculous! Whoever felt the nee to take an innocent story like Snow White, and have her running about with a bow and arrow should get shot in the head with an arrow! The film is set to be released  2012 in December 21. It's a long way away, but I'm not looking forward to it.

      Film Master Weekly Newsletter 16/05/11

Welcome to the start of my weekly film news letters. Here I will be discussing films I've watched this week, what films are coming soon and what's hot in the film world. I hope you enjoy my weekly updates. Thanks.

      The Certified Stamp of Freshness
I will award this stamp to all films that score over 90%, and are officially 'fresh' films that will definitely be enjoyed by most people.

      This Week:

Pirates of the Caribbean 4 launches
This Wednesday, (May 20 for USA) The fourth instalment to the Pirates of the Caribbean series arrives. the series may seem to becoming  money cow for the box office, but I'm looking forward to this one. This time Johnny Depp works along side Penelope Cruz, as a  woman from his past (In the film I mean). Geoffrey Rush also returns as Barbossa, who seems to lurk through all of the films. Black-beard also appears in this instalment. the third pirates film was an extreme budget, visually spectacular film, but not in the strengths of story to film critics. this time our Jack Sparrow is on a quest to find the fountain of youth and ends up on a ruthless journey. I've enjoyed the Pirates series and can't wait to see this one and it's looking very exciting.

Critical Consensus of Priest
T trailer of the film was made by young film enthusiasts thanks to Sony pictures giving people a chance to get a taste of Hollywood. Well according to the critical consensus it's a dud. With an average of 19% on RT and 5.5/10 on IMDB it doesn't seem to be very bright. Needless to say, I think I will come round to giving this one a chance at the cinema some time next week. But guess what? It's a vampire Movie. It seems vampires n werewolves are all hot from looking back since the release of Twilight. Not that I'm blaming Twilight, but from around 2007 to now vampire movies have been embellished. I don't have much explication but I'll give it a chance.

      DVD and Blu-Ray Releases:
The following films are coming out on DVD:
Tangled: Blu-ray Triple Play and DVD release.
      Tron Legacy:
      Black Swan
      Gulliver's Travels
      The King's Speech
      Burlesque
      Waiting for superman
      Tekken
      The Tourist
      The Green Hornet

      Anticipated Movies Coming Soon:

      Kung Fu Panda 2:
The first Kung Fu Panda was a funny and charming animated film with the voices of Jack Black, Jackie Chan, Dustin Hoffman and several others. Kung Fu Panda dos feel like a film worthy of a sequel, and I'm sure it won't be too bad either. Gary Oldman is also doing a voice in this which is pretty cool to know. this time our character Po, now a Kung Fu master, is fighting to protect the Valley of Peace alongside with Master Shifu (Dustin Hoffman) and the Furious Five. It will be good to see the overweight panda back in action. The film comes out on May 26 and I truly can't wait for this one either.

      Anticipation Rating: 7/10

      Cars 2:
Cars is my least liked Pixar film, but I still liked it. I think a sequel tot his film isn't a bad idea. Well this time our character Lightning McQueen, voiced by Owen Wilson, goes to the Grand Prix and meets new friends, or should I say 'Cars'. Well it seems Pixar are relying on sequels, because next year I heard they planned Monsters Inc. 2. I hope they don't go any further and start creating sequels for things like 'A Bugs Life' or 'The Incredibles. Infact, the Incredibles could have a sequel, but I wouldn't favour in it that much. The film is set to be released on June 24, and looks like a film for the summer. It will be great for kids, and for Pixar fans out their.

      Anticipation Rating: 6/10

Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 2:
This is the finale I'v been waiting for for well over 2 years now. Everyone who knows Harry Potter knew this was coming. I have read the first 3 books but don't want to spoil the ending and have one big cinema experience. Harry and Co. are on the hunt for the rest of the Horcruxes, where the story left off in part 1. After a full 10 years of this film series is coming to an end. In 2001 I was 6 and I can remember Harry Potter very well. I guess I can call it one of my earliest film experiences that I can remember, but I have always loved the Harry Potter films. The films have gotten darker since The Prisoner of Azkaban, and Part 1 was chilling, thrilling and had some great humour thrown in to keep you sane. The film kicks off July 15 and is the film that I hope makes my summer.

      Anticipation Rating: 9/10

      Last Week:

Thor makes it's way to the box office
On Saturday I seen Thor. It isn't a half bad film but had several predictable parts. Read my review in the link below. Well Thor has already made it's way into the top 5 highest grossing films this year with a gross revenue of $317 million worldwide, making $89 million on it's first weekend. The film is so far a critical success and a definite Box Office Success.
