I agree a PM is more suitable and reckon I'll buy one within 12 months but as a cheaper alternative the Mini makes a great stop-gap.
You don't have to go straight from a mini to a PM. What about an iMac if you need more power? :)

I love my G5 PowerPC- works beautifully, but I'm looking to upgrade from the PowerPC chip set to an Intel set, since it appears the software people don't want to support it anymore. I want to know if I can cannibalize my old Power Mac- just install the hard drives and memory into a couple of Intel Mac Pros that I'm looking at. Bottom line: are the memory and hard drives compatible?
There are still plenty of developers making universal binaries for PPC.. just that the main developers of Apple, Adobe, Mozilla(TenFourFox is better than firefiox 4.0) aren't developing new apps for the PowerPC, but there are literally 1000's of small and minor developers creating apps for the PPC platform. Its not dead yet.

O by the way Dreadnought. I plan on passing you! I have had one work unit turned in on my mac pro now it was worth 700 points and it took 22 hours. I have also lost a work unit which gaves errors(this was before the SMP client when public beta) However I have one sitting on my computer at home finished, I just found out how to upload it. I had a configuration thing set wrong. And I will have another one done by the end of today. :) I will catch up pretty fast with your current output. ;)

Ok my mom just got a cable modem today. I have dsl at my house so I'm not sure if i'm doing everything right. The problem is, the airport is not getting an ip address from the modem. I just un-pluged everything for 8min and still nothing(This is applecare said to do.) The modem works fine when hooked up to a computer direct. Anyone have any hints at all. This is really getting to me. Shes running 10.2.6 and all the newest versions of airport/basestation etc.

LCDs looks horrible when not ran at their native resolution. You will definitely want to run it at 2560x1600. If the text is too small, sit closer or make the fonts bigger.
I am going to be picking up my new 27" iMac at the store tomorrow. For the past 4 years I have been using a 24" Dell at 1920x1200. Since the 27" iMac is 2560x1140, do most people run it at native or something lower?
I am looking forward to the increased screen size so I can have more rows/columns viewable, but not sure I want them any smaller.
I sit about 24-30" away from the screen.
How would the 27" look at something lower?

- Running games at 2560x1440, with lower textures, I find, is better than running it at 1080p, with higher texture.
- When browsing the web, documents, etc. keep it at native resolution, otherwise it looks like rubbish.

Definitely do not send it back to the guy. If you're going to do anything, send it to your friend and have her make the exchange and check the phone and make sure it's working as it should. (Hopefully she knows a thing or two about iPhone's)

I'm a teacher who has brought his class every year to MacWorld. We always come on Friday. I don't think that any booths close down on Friday until the late afternoon. My kids like the fact that vendors are more willing to give away free stuff on Fridays.
So...I don't think it would be a waste of your time.

It may have something running in the background that prevents the automatic sleeping. Check system prefs, accounts, your account, login items to see if it starts up automatically at login. If it does, select that and click the minus button. You can also check activity monitor to see if there are programs running in the background keeping it awake.

I hate Spymac. They aut' to be ashamed of themselves for doing this. They're going to charge for documentation when anyone can go there and post pictures for free. They definitely have the wrong priorities.

The only thing i would worry about is if Nintendo pulls a M$ and when/if they release online games that they won't let you online because you modified your hardware.
I know nothing about Wii modchips, but can't you just disable the chip when you want to play online? That's how the chip in my PS2 works.
