Bordertown: Do you know the Way in?

Ahh.... I love magic and fantasy.  So when I recently heard the term "Bordertown" it immediately caught my attention, because bordertowns are famous for walking that fine line between real life and that other dimension out there. It's the intersection where the outlaws, the crazies, the seekers and the gifted are found and where they merge with what others call 'reality'.

They say that Bordertown is the place where urban fantasy was born.

I hadn't actually heard of Bordertown stories before, but imagine my delight when I found out that there's an anthology, edited by Holly Black and Ellen Kushner, called Welcome to Bordertown, coming out May 24th .
Here's their description:

"Bordertown—a city caught between our world and the elfin Realm that has suddenly returned. Magic doesn’t quite work there, and neither does technology. Kids from both sides of the Border run away to find themselves there, recreating themselves in the squats and clubs and artists’ studios of Soho. It’s been 13 years since anyone from our world has been able to find the Way into the Borderlands...but to the people of Bordertown, it seems like it’s only been 13 days since they saw anyone new come in from outside.

Now the Way is open once again—and things are about to change completely."

Sounds pretty enticing, doesn't it?  You can read a sneak peek of Cory Doctorow's Shannon's Law by going here.

You can also check out more articles regarding Welcome to Bordertown and the Borderlands on Tor.com. Oh, and did I mention some of the authors of the anthology?

Emma Bull
Cassandra Clare
Charles de Lint
Cory Doctorow
Neil Gaiman
Patricia McKillip
Catherynne Valente
Jane Yolen

Does this series of stories sound interesting to you?

Who I Write Like

Have you seen those sites that will analyze your writing and tell you who you write like?  I don't usually bother with things like that but I'm on vacation so I decided to post a page from THE FAERIE RING, and try one for fun.

Well, I was surprised and pleased by the answer so I decided to post my results:

I write like
Cory Doctorow
I Write Like by Mémoires, Mac journal software. Analyze your writing!

Cory Doctorow?  Wow!  I'll take that result any day! The funny thing is - Cory is published by the same house I am - Tor Books. I'm not sure that means anything special but still - I like it!

So, out of curiosity, because clearly these are not scientific results, I posted a page from my current WIP.  My results for that one:

I write like
Stephen King
I Write Like by Mémoires, Mac journal software. Analyze your writing!

Right then.

Obviously the program must look at a number of elements to make the "analysis". So FYI - THE FAERIE RING is an urban fantasy written in a 3rd past POV.  Conversely, my current WIP, PULSE, is a contemporary sort-of paranormal written in 1st person.

Feeling a little more doubtful about the results now but it's all good fun.

Want to try it yourself and see who you write like?  Go here and then come back and tell me your results!!
