Ellen Booraem has written a fascinating article on maps in books over at The Enchanted Inkpot today. I love maps so much here's a picture of a map in my house that fills up the whole wall!!
I'm not going to repeat the great summation that Ellen gives on maps, you can go to the Inkpot and read for yourself - but I know I love them in books because they help paint the picture in my mind of the world I'm inhabiting while immersed in the story. They give me clues, like dragons in the waters off a coast, to tell me there's danger and they foreshadow places I've yet to go.
